The city of Agra is located in the north-eastern state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
The city was established in 1475 and it is mentioned in Mahabharata as Agraba.
The 16th and 17th centuries saw Agra developing quickly and some buildings made
during this era still exist. Agra is home
to one of the seven wonders of the world: the Taj Mahal,
also built in that period.
Agra is not as populated as other major cities (about 1,5 million inhabitants)
but is one of the favourite destinations for tourists. The city is also famous
for its carpets, jewellery and leather shoes.
The main languages spoken in Agra are Hindu, Urdu but English is often used, as
well.
